Evening drive had us driving everywhere in search of big
game, on Gowrie main we spotted four buffalo bulls grazing along. And after a
while we caught a glimpse of Lamula as he crossed east over MMM. None the less
a good drive, considering the little sightings.
This morning was action packed!
We were on the trail of cheetah on kestrel; unfortunately the tracks go east
into KNP. As we mumbled around looking at impalas we received good news, a
leopard had been spotted on chitwa.

We headed to the area and as we arrived we
saw Mvula in a marula tree and upon our arrival he jumped down, at this point
we noticed another leopard! But the leopard was the least of our worries, a
hyena was walking not far from them, Mvula ran with great confidence towards
the spotted hyena, but with no success as he got chased up a fallen over marula
tree by the hyena.

We then identified the other leopard as he walked into the
open, it was Bauti! The produce of Thandi and Mvula. It seemed there was a
father and son reunion, cut short by the intrusion of the spotted hyenas. The
clan of hyenas had stolen a waterbuck kill from the leopards, Mvula had given
up on the kill and left the area but Bahuti was determined to get back what was
his. He came close at one point grabbing the carcass from the hyenas, had there
been a larger tree close by he would have got away with it. Unfortunately Bahuti
only got away with the skin of the waterbuck and climbed the first tall tree he
could find. We left him surrounded by hyenas, eating the scraps off what was
left on the skin.
