Out and about once again, these past two drives has proven
to be outstanding and quite a bar raising experience for my guests.
Yesterday
and today we found a big herd of elephants, plenty of antelope and the
highlight was Bauti. As we started the afternoon drive zebras and blue
wildebeest greeted us at the pan and soon after impala joined as well.
On our
way we came across broken branches and big droppings indicating that elephant
were among us, we moved in the direction of the tracks and found the herd.
Quite a large herd of elephants at that, as we gazed at the giants two young
bulls started to push each other around in a show of dominance and strength,
braking branches and make a noise as they went along. Eventually the more dominant
bull had enough of the game and pushed the other bull to the ground, as he fell
with his feet forward, the larger bull mounted him as a display of dominance.
After our elephant show we had a lovely sun downer.
At the end of our drink
stop it was already dark but just as we wanted to leave we herd impala alarm
calling, we did not hesitate and headed directly towards the stressed impalas.
We circled them and found Bauti strolling along not showing interest in the
noisy Impalas. We followed him for a bit before he disappeared into a drainage
line. We decided we did not have our fill of leopard yet so we tried to
relocate him. Five minutes went by as we were searching for him and it was
worth it, as we spotted him he was still strolling along but as we approached
he crouched down and I noticed a scrub hare in the road, in a blink of an eye,
before we knew it he grabbed his prey and it was over the scrub hare had no
chance. We watched him finish his meal and wonder off into the night.
This
morning we were awaken by lions roaring in the distance, we headed out to try
and find them but unfortunately they were in the Kruger national park, just out
of our reach. We moved off enjoying the rich bird life and wonderful antelope
varieties and once we finished our coffee break Bauti made his second
appearance on Chitwa open area, we now could gaze upon the beauty of the
leopard in beautiful day light, he moved west and found a cent on a marula
tree. He gave us a great display of Fleming before we left him to his business.
Bush regards
