Our afternoon was quite interesting filled with common and
uncommon animals such as, more puff adders, a quick glimpse of honey badgers,
a big bull elephant drinking water at big dam, and another on Gowrie main.
It
was a very windy drive as the wind picked up quickly towards the end of the
drive; we headed back to camp before we were blown away! But on our way a small
spotted genet made a quick appearance before scampering away through the long
grass then we spotted a magnificent Verreaux's Eagle-owl in a tree not too far from
the road.
This morning the wind brought us a cloudy sky, but with little
deterrence we headed out in search of animals. Just west of camp lion tracks
were heading west we followed them right into
Annette’s camp were we found an old
dagga boy, we left the area we last seen the tracks believing they are still in
the aria, and headed west. Shortly after we entered the west, the guys reported
the breakaways on leopard drift, so naturally I headed to the area. As we
arrived the pride came out of the bush and on to the road giving us a perfect
sighting as the whole pride walked alongside the vehicle! The cubs are getting
big and looking healthy as ever. On our way back we found a big hippo bull out
of water grazing in the thick covered area taking advantage of the sun-less
skies. Hopefully the wind calms down by this afternoon.
