Coming back after two weeks leave in the city, being back in
the bush was a blessing! Even though sightings were a bit scares (especially
the felines!) the atmosphere and wildlife made me feel right at home. We spotted
a couple of elephant in the west lots of plains game and sean got stuck late at
night with a big bull elephant in must, kept him busy for a while and after he
found the Anderson male with his kill. Today was a very good day for the scavengers;
we started off this morning before the sun rose and found a black backed jackal
with something in his mouth. We tried to figure out what it was but wasn’t too
sure as it was small and we had limited light, the jackal dropped the item and
left we headed on searching for any cats. We headed back to camp early as we
had early checkouts. As soon as we were back we started our walk only two
guests, we found the item the Jackal had dropped earlier the morning. It was a
baby impala scull quite fresh. Once we came back to the lodge after the informative
walk everyone sat down for breakfast, it wasn’t ten minutes when we heard
jackals calling in front of the lodge close to the pan. I gathered the guests
and we headed out to see what the fuss was about. When we got to the pan we
noticed that there were four or more jackals together looking in a southern
direction, as we looked where they were looking we noticed vultures! Hundreds and
hundreds of vultures! We went straight towards the venue of vultures and headed
to the area they were perched, looked around for a while and found the source
of the attraction, a male impala carcass was west of kaal kol picked to the bone!
We didn’t find the culprit but suspect a cheetah or maybe even Thandi! We are
hoping to find the culprit this afternoon! Fingers crossed!
